Slovenia's poultry meat and offal production showed steady growth, increasing from 138.3 thousand tons in 2018 to 150.5 thousand tons in 2023. This rise in output supported an expansion of the domestic market volume, which grew from 135.4 thousand tons to 150.3 thousand tons over the same six-year period. The market experienced a temporary dip in 2021, falling to 139.8 thousand tons, before resuming its upward trajectory.

International trade played a consistent role, with imports reaching 25.4 thousand tons in 2023 after fluctuating during the period, including a drop to 18.9 thousand tons in 2020. Exports also grew, from 23.1 thousand tons in 2018 to 25.6 thousand tons in 2023. Preliminary data for 2024 indicates continued trade activity, with imports at 27.0 thousand tons and exports at 26.5 thousand tons.

Slovenia's poultry meat and offal production has grown for the third year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 146 thousand tons, marking a moderate increase of 4.2% compared to 2019. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 6.8%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 2.2%.

After two years of growth, Slovenia's poultry meat and offal exports declined in 2020. Exports reached 22 155 tons, showing a modest decrease of 6.1% from the previous year. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 23 598 tons, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 with a 6.1% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Austria, Croatia, and North Macedonia were the top buyers of Slovenian poultry meat and offal, accounting for 29.2%, 16.9%, and 11.9% of exports in kind, respectively. Together, these three countries represented 58.0% of total exports in kind during this period.

Following two years of increase, Slovenia's poultry meat and offal export value declined in 2020. Exports totaled 60 153 thousand US dollars, reflecting a moderate drop of 3.5% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value grew by 12.6%, equivalent to an average annual rate of 4.0%. The peak was in 2019 at 62 346 thousand US dollars, with the largest increase occurring in 2018 at 15.2%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Austria, Switzerland, and Croatia were the main destinations for Slovenian poultry meat and offal in value terms, accounting for 31.3%, 18.8%, and 15.2% of exports, respectively. Combined, these three countries made up 65.3% of total export value during this period.

The highest import volume was in 2019 at 20 802 tons, while the largest increase was recorded in 2018 at 10.1%.

Over the 2017-2020 period, Hungary, Austria, and Italy were consistently the leading sources of poultry meat and offal imports to Slovenia in kind, representing 18.1%, 17.4%, and 16.2% of imports, respectively. Together, these three countries accounted for 51.8% of total import flows in kind.

Slovenia's poultry meat and offal import value declined for the second consecutive year in 2020. Imports totaled 42 505 thousand US dollars, representing a robust drop of 19.4% year-over-year. From 2017 to 2020, import value decreased by 15.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of -5.5%. The peak was in 2018 at 56 235 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase at 11.8%.

In the 2017-2020 period, Hungary, Poland, and Austria were the top suppliers of poultry meat and offal to Slovenia in value terms, accounting for 24.3%, 15.7%, and 15.1% of imports, respectively. Together, these three countries made up 55.1% of total import value during this time.
