Earlier Report Observations

The potato starch market in the CIS grew from 46 181 t in 2018 to 74 451 t in 2022. This expansion was supported by rising domestic production, which benefited from improved seed quality for potato varieties and sustained industrial demand for potato-based products such as frozen fries and semi-finished goods.

Potato starch output increased consistently, with an 18% rise in the first half of 2021 and further growth in 2022 as processors invested in capacity and required higher-quality raw materials. However, in 2023, the market volume fell to 58 405 t after geopolitical factors and new trade barriers, including proposed higher import duties, sharply reduced imports of potato starch and related products.

Throughout the period, major companies like Miratorg and the fast-food chain Vkusno i Tochka announced plans for a large frozen potato processing plant slated for 2024. Shifts in consumer preferences toward convenient potato snacks and regulatory discussions on import limits also influenced the market dynamics.
