Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, the Caribbean potato market volume showed moderate volatility, ranging between 341.7 and 366.1 thousand tons. The market peaked in 2019 before entering a two-year contraction, with the lowest volume recorded in 2021.

A clear structural shift occurred as domestic production fell from 275 thousand tons to 233 thousand tons, while imports rose from 89 thousand tons to 115 thousand tons. This growing reliance on foreign supply helped cushion the overall market from a more severe decline.

In the latter part of the period, the market stabilized, with volumes hovering around 348-351 thousand tons in 2022 and 2023, suggesting an established equilibrium between lower local output and higher import volumes.
