The Hungarian portland cement market entered the period with industry expansion plans, highlighted in 2018 by the construction of a new high-tech plant by Prebeton Zrt aimed at boosting domestic production capacity. Market volume reached 2135 thousand tons in 2019 but contracted to 1977 thousand tons in 2020.

Supported by EU funding, strong wage growth, and pre-election housing stimulus, cement demand rebounded sharply, driving market volume to a peak of 2227 thousand tons in 2022. The following year saw a slight moderation to 2165 thousand tons, coinciding with a reported decrease in the market for cement building blocks and bricks. Across this period, the market's value rose substantially, reaching 218.3 million USD in 2023, reflecting significant price increases.
