The pork market in Brunei contracted significantly between 2018 and 2023, with total volume falling by more than 800 tonnes over the period. The market peaked at 2 073 tonnes in 2018 before entering a sustained downward trend.

After a modest decline in 2019, consumption dropped sharply in 2020 and again in 2022, though it saw a temporary uptick in 2021. By 2023, the market had shrunk to 1 266 tonnes, representing a decrease of nearly 40% from the 2018 level.

Local production remained minimal throughout, never exceeding 51 tonnes per year, making imports the primary source of supply. Import volumes mirrored the overall market decline, falling from over 2 000 tonnes in 2018 to 1 237 tonnes in 2023.

In 2020, the country produced 41 320 kg of pork, representing a 14.5% decrease compared to the previous year.
