Earlier Report Observations

The pig offal market in Eastern Asia reached 2.8 million tonnes in 2018, supported by the government's frozen meat purchase and release mechanism designed to balance pork supply and stabilize prices. The following two years saw a contraction, with the market volume declining to 2.3 million tonnes by 2020. During this period, high regional pork import volumes and ongoing optimization of swine breeding genetics indicated structural shifts within the pork industry.

Market volume rebounded strongly from 2021 onwards, growing to 3.1 million tonnes in 2023. A key driver was the introduction of a revised government pork reserve regulation in June 2021, which established a precise early-warning system based on the pig-to-grain price ratio and led to several direct market interventions. Concurrently, a sharp decline in pork imports signalled a rise in domestic production capacity. By 2023, the scaling-up of pig farming, marked by an increasing number of large-scale enterprises, further boosted the supply of offal.

By 2024, the swine production capacity control policy had been optimized, leading to a more balanced supply-demand fundamentals. The breeding sow inventory reached a high level near the upper limit of reasonable capacity, while major industry players strengthened their vertical integration across the feed, breeding, farming, and processing segments, solidifying the foundation of the pig offal market.
