During this year, new labeling and packaging rules were introduced to enhance traceability, while preservation technologies like freezing and smoking were promoted to improve product quality and reduce waste.

In 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade implemented stricter quality control measures for pork and pig fat imports, requiring more rigorous certification checks. This contributed to a temporary reduction in imports to 8.4 thousand tonnes, even as domestic production started to recover, reaching 179 thousand tonnes. The following year, an update to the HS code for pig fat altered import duties and origin requirements, affecting costs. Coupled with a government price support program that encouraged the use of processed pig fat, these measures helped drive market growth. Production increased to 191 thousand tonnes in 2022, and imports rebounded to 18.4 thousand tonnes, pushing the total market to 209 thousand tonnes. The expansion continued into 2023, with production rising to 204 thousand tonnes and the market reaching 220 thousand tonnes.
