From 2018 to 2019, the market volume for pig fat in the Philippines held steady near 287 thousand tons, supported by domestic production above 220 thousand tons and annual imports of 64-65 thousand tons. A sharp decline followed in 2020, with the market contracting to 245 thousand tons as production fell to 206 thousand tons and imports dropped to 39 thousand tons. The market shrank further to 226 thousand tons in 2021, with production reaching a low of 163 thousand tons while imports recovered to 63 thousand tons.

A partial recovery took place from 2022 to 2023, with the market volume rising to 241 thousand tons and then 244 thousand tons. Domestic production increased to 167 thousand tons in 2022 and 172 thousand tons in 2023, while imports grew to 74 thousand tons and 72 thousand tons respectively.

Imports surged to 102.6 thousand tons in 2024. This increase was driven by persistent African Swine Fever outbreaks which constrained local pork supply, leading to greater reliance on imported meat. Government measures, including maintaining lower tariff rates under Executive Order 62 to facilitate imports, also supported this inflow to meet domestic demand.
