The market volume for fresh pears in Lebanon underwent significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. It started at 43 454 tons in 2018 before plummeting to 30 677 tons in 2019, a drop of nearly 30%. The following year saw a partial recovery to 32 804 tons, but this was reversed in 2021 when volume fell again to 27 841 tons.

From 2021 onward, the market entered a clear growth phase. Volume expanded by 13.7% to 31 643 tons in 2022 and continued to rise by 10.3% in 2023, reaching 34 904 tons. Despite this two-year recovery, the 2023 market volume remained about 20% below the 2018 level.

Lebanon's pear production reached 40 608 tonnes in 2020, marking a significant 16.6% increase from the previous year. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production actually decreased by 4.8%, which translates to an average annual decline of 1.6%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 34 818 tonnes, while the highest was in 2018 at 44 342 tonnes. The most substantial drop occurred in 2019, with a decline of 21.5%.

The export market for pears from Lebanon showed considerable volatility during this period. The lowest point was in 2018 at 1 484 tonnes, while exports peaked in 2020 at 8 481 tonnes, representing a dramatic 80.1% increase from the previous year. This swing between the trough and peak amounted to a 5.7-fold difference. The largest decline was recorded in 2018 at 22.9%, while the most significant increase occurred in 2019 with a surge of 217.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait were the leading destinations for Lebanon's pear exports in volume terms. Iraq accounted for 27.1% of exports, Saudi Arabia for 19.7%, and Kuwait for 15.6%. Together, these three countries represented 62.4% of Lebanon's total pear export flows during this period.

Lebanon's pear exports in value terms grew for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports totaled 3 168 thousand US dollars, showing a sudden advance of 42.0% compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 59.1%, which equates to an average annual growth rate of 16.7%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 1 608 thousand US dollars, with the largest decline that year at 19.2%.

During 2017–2020, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq remained the principal buyers of Lebanese pears in value terms. Saudi Arabia accounted for 26.2% of exports, Kuwait for 20.1%, and Iraq for 18.4%. Collectively, these three markets represented 64.6% of Lebanon's total pear export value over this period.

Lebanon's imports of pears in volume terms amounted to 676 tonnes in 2020, corresponding to a solid advance of 19.2% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports increased by 56.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 16.0%. The largest decline was recorded in 2019 at 4.7%, while the most significant increase occurred in 2018 with a rise of 37.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Turkey and Chile were the main sources for Lebanon's pear imports in volume terms. Together, they accounted for 88.2% of total import flows, with the remaining share distributed among other trading partners.

Lebanon's imports of pears in value terms declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports totaled 319 thousand US dollars, indicating a fall of 5.0% compared with 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, imports decreased by 32.6%, equating to an average annual decline of 12.3%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 721 thousand US dollars. The largest decline occurred in 2019 at 53.5%, while the most significant increase was in 2018 with a rise of 52.5%.

Over the 2017–2020 period, Turkey and Chile were the dominant sources for Lebanon's pear imports in value terms. Together, they accounted for 87.6% of total import flows, with the remaining volume split among smaller markets.
