The volume of the Czech fresh pears market contracted from 22 698 tonnes in 2018 to 19 453 tonnes in 2021, despite domestic production beginning a sustained rise after 2019. This period of lower market size coincided with a gradual reduction in import volumes, which supplied less fruit to the domestic sector.

A significant shift occurred in 2022 and 2023, as production continued growing to reach 9 600 tonnes. However, export volumes more than doubled compared to 2018, peaking at 3 518 tonnes in 2023, while imports fell to 12 544 tonnes. The net effect was a further decrease in the total market volume to 18 626 tonnes by 2023.

The data reveals irregular changes, indicating a volatile market environment. Production reached its lowest point in 2017, with the highest level recorded in 2020, showing a 1.9-fold variation between these years. In 2020, Czechia produced 7 370 tonnes of pears, which represents a 20.2% increase from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Austria were the principal destinations for Czech pear exports in kind. Slovakia accounted for 68.3% of exports, Bulgaria for 11.1%, and Austria for 8.0%. Together, these three countries represented 87.4% of total export flows.

After a two-year decline, pear exports from Czechia increased in 2020. Exports amounted to 1 457 thousand US dollars, up by 27.6% from the previous year. Foreign pear supplies to Czechia declined for the second consecutive year in 2020. Import volume reached 13 871 tonnes, representing a solid fall of 13.7% compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports decreased by 18%, equating to an annualized rate of 6.4%. The highest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 16 991 tonnes. The largest increase occurred in 2018, with a 0.4% rise.

Throughout 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands, Belgium, and South Africa formed the core group of markets for pear imports in kind to Czechia. After a two-year decline, Czechia's pear import volume increased in 2020. Imports were recorded at 13 108 thousand US dollars, up by 14.6% from 2019. Over the period 2017 to 2020, imports decreased by 11.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 11 438 thousand US dollars. From 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy continued to be the main suppliers of pears to Czechia in value terms. The Netherlands accounted for 37.4% of imports, Belgium for 16.5%, and Italy for 11.8%. Together, these three countries formed 65.7% of total imports in value terms.
