Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for peaches and nectarines in Kyrgyzstan contracted from 21 989 t in 2018 to 11 697 t in 2021. This decline was driven by a sharp drop in imports and a rise in exports. The COVID-19 pandemic slowed fresh fruit consumption in 2020, while local farmers actively developed domestic production, reducing dependence on imports from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

From 2021 onward, the market recovered, reaching 16 827 t by 2023. Increased shipments from Uzbekistan, which accounts for over 99% of peach and nectarine exports to the EAEU, boosted supply in Kyrgyzstan. Simultaneously, growing consumer preference for eco-friendly and fresh fruit supported demand for local produce, leading to lower export volumes and more product retained for domestic sales.

Domestic production remained stable throughout the period, fluctuating between 11 256 t and 11 526 t annually. This resilience reflects the ongoing development of local cultivation, including the adoption of weather-resistant varieties that improve quality and transportability.
