Peach and nectarine production in Iran reached 611 thousand tonnes in 2018 but fell by about 3% the following year due to drought, pest outbreaks, and electricity shortages. To counter these challenges, the sector adopted cold storage facilities to extend shelf life and expanded greenhouse cultivation for off-season output, which helped restore production to 603 thousand tonnes by 2020. Simultaneously, strengthened export chains and the identification of new foreign markets led to a sharp rise in exports, which reached 100 thousand tonnes that year.

Rising reliance on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and high energy inputs in agriculture reduced production sustainability, causing output to drop to 548 thousand tonnes in 2021. Despite persistent dry conditions and currency instability that affected costs, production partially recovered to 577 thousand tonnes by 2022. The domestic market volume shrank from 596 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 481 thousand tonnes in 2021 as growing exports diverted more produce abroad.

In 2023, production continued to grow, reaching 619 thousand tonnes, while the domestic market volume expanded to 570 thousand tonnes, indicating a steady recovery from the earlier declines.

In 2020, Iran produced 602.5 thousand tonnes of peaches and nectarines, marking a 1.9% increase from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 14.5%, with an average annual growth rate of 4.6%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 611.4 thousand tonnes. In 2019, production saw its largest decline of 3.3%, while the biggest increase occurred in 2018 with a 16.2% rise.

Iran's export volumes of peaches and nectarines have risen for the third year in a row. In 2020, exports reached 99 648 tonnes, representing a sharp increase of 185.6% compared to 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports surged by 739.7%, translating to an annualized growth rate of 103.3%.

In 2020, exports totaled 68 731 thousand US dollars, reflecting a substantial year-over-year rise of 183.8%. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value grew by 1 220.6%, with an average annual growth rate of 136.4%.
