Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, peach and nectarine production in Asia increased from 17.0 million tons to 17.9 million tons. China's continued expansion of peach tree plantings solidified its position as the world's largest producer in 2018. Although global production growth slowed in 2019 due to declines in the EU and the US, output in Asia maintained its upward trajectory. Advancements in cultivation technology and the introduction of new varieties in 2020 further enhanced quality and yields, supporting market growth.

Production accelerated to 18.9 million tons in 2021 as the industry focused on varietal renewal and improved planting techniques to meet diverse consumer demand. In 2022, regional initiatives in China, such as in Zaoyang, promoted industry transformation by emphasizing a balanced mix of early, mid, and late-season varieties and expanding nectarine and yellow peach acreage. By 2023, development of late-ripening autumn nectarines in Dalian, along with seedling base construction, technical guidance, and brand-building efforts, extended the sales chain and increased industry value. Climate-related yield impacts were mitigated through irrigation and crop insurance, while evolving consumer preferences spurred new variety development and digital supply chain management.
