From 2018 to 2020, Cambodia's paddy rice market remained stable, with volume edging up from 10 890 thousand tonnes to 10 938 thousand tonnes.

The market expanded sharply to 12 211 thousand tonnes in 2021. In 2022, volume declined to 11 854 thousand tonnes as climate-induced droughts and water stress across Southeast Asia disrupted planting cycles and reduced harvests. Government policies, including production incentives and minimum price guarantees, were implemented to support farmers and stabilize output during this period.

Production and market volume recovered in 2023, with output reaching 13 186 thousand tonnes and market volume rising to 12 066 thousand tonnes.
