After peaking in 2019, the market contracted to 1 507 thousand cubic meters in 2020, partially recovered to 1 619 thousand cubic meters in 2021, then declined to 1 548 thousand cubic meters in 2022 and 1 414 thousand cubic meters in 2023. During this period, Louisiana-Pacific Corporation acquired the Wawa OSB facility in Canada, expanding its production capacity and positioning for long-term growth in the market.

In 2024, the market continued to be shaped by strong demand from construction projects and a growing preference for sustainable building materials, while regional industry expansion was indicated by the announcement of a new OSB manufacturing plant in Jay, Maine, near the Canadian border.

OSB production in Canada rose for two years before declining. In 2020, production reached 6 629 K m³, marking a 13.1% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017–2020 period, production fell by 7.3%, which translates to an annualized decline of 2.5%. The peak was in 2019 at 7 631 K m³, while the largest year-on-year increase occurred in 2018 at 3.9%.

Canada's OSB export value surged in 2020, totaling 1 773 M $ US, a 53.0% increase year-on-year. Over the 2017–2020 period, export value grew by 15.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.8%. The lowest value was in 2019 at 1 159 M $ US, which also saw the largest decline of 33.3%.

The lowest volume was in 2018 at 127 K m³, which also experienced the largest drop of 15.3%. In contrast, the biggest increase occurred in 2019 at 11.1%.

Over the 2017–2020 period, import value increased by 11.7%, with an annualized growth rate of 3.8%. The lowest value was in 2018 at 34 M $ US, which saw the largest decline of 11.5%, while the largest increase was in 2019 at 20.0%.
