In 2018, the Spanish orange market reached 2.3 million tons, supported by favorable weather conditions including a rainy spring and mild summer that boosted production. However, market volume fell to 1.6 million tons in 2019.

After a partial recovery to 1.9 million tons in 2020 and 2.2 million tons in 2021, the market dropped sharply to 1.4 million tons in 2022. This decline was primarily driven by severe drought and pest outbreaks, which reduced orange yields to their lowest level in the period. In response, the Spanish government introduced tax relief measures for the agricultural sector.

In 2023, market volume rose to 1.7 million tons, even as production remained constrained by adverse climate factors. Throughout the period, a structural decline in per capita orange consumption and shifting consumer preferences toward premium varieties and products with lower sugar content continued to shape the market.

Production reached its lowest point in 2019 at 3 227 K t, while the peak was recorded in 2018 at 3 640 K t. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with an 11.3% drop, whereas the most significant increase was in 2018, with an 8.4% rise.

In 2020, Spain's orange production was valued at 2 954 M $ US, reflecting a sharp rise of 29.1% year-over-year. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 2 289 M $ US, while the highest was in 2018 at 3 153 M $ US. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a 27.4% decrease.
