The orange market in Panama increased in volume from 42 370 t in 2018 to a peak of 46 541 t in 2021, supported by growth in both domestic production and imports. After this expansion, the market contracted to 43 914 t in 2022 and remained at that level through 2023.

Orange production recovered to 41 900 t in 2023, aided by favorable climatic conditions and technical support from the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA). Simultaneously, a rise in transport and fuel costs increased retail prices, which dampened consumer purchasing volume and contributed to the stable market size that year.

The entry of new exporter Caribowox Panamá S.A. in 2023 created additional international channels for Panamanian citrus, though export volumes remained minimal. Structural constraints, including limited raw material supply and a lack of new growers, continued to shape the industry's capacity.

Panama's orange production volume increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, Panama produced 44 015 tonnes of oranges, showing a controlled year-on-year advance of 4.4%. Between 2017 and 2020, production grew by 9%, which equates to an annualized growth rate of 2.9%.
