Following a contraction to 20 219 tons in 2019, the market entered a phase of expansion, with volume surging to 24 440 tons in 2020. This upward movement continued, albeit at a more moderate pace, leading to a market size of 25 465 tons by 2023, the highest point in the observed period.

This overall growth in supply was underpinned by a consistent rise in domestic orange production, which increased from 3 090 tons to 5 839 tons over these six years. Imports, while experiencing annual fluctuations, remained the dominant source of oranges for the Azerbaijani market throughout the entire timeframe.

Azerbaijan's orange production has increased for the third consecutive year. In 2021, the country produced 4 518 tonnes of oranges, marking a 15.1% gain over the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, production grew by 46.2%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 13.5%.

Over the 2018–2021 period, imports increased by 12.1%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.9%. The lowest import volume was in 2019 at 16 742 tonnes, while the peak occurred in 2020 at 20 513 tonnes. The largest decline was in 2019 at 7.5%, and the largest increase was in 2020 at 22.5%.

From 2018 to 2021, Turkey (40.0% of imports in kind), Iran (39.9% of imports in kind), and Egypt (17.8% of imports in kind) consistently served as the main sources for Azerbaijan's orange imports, together accounting for 97.7% of total flows.

After two years of gains, Azerbaijan's orange import volume in value terms declined. In 2021, the import volume amounted to 14 430 thousand US dollars, corresponding to a slight decrease of 0.6% compared to the previous year. Over the 2018–2021 period, imports increased by 42.2%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.5%. The highest value was recorded in 2020 at 14 524 thousand US dollars, with the largest increase that year at 21.0%.
