The introduction of regulatory standard NOM-173-SCFI-2009 for prepackaged fruit juices in 2018 affected production and commercialization practices. In 2019, Mexico's consolidation as a major global exporter led to increased export volumes, which reduced domestic market size to 90.1 million L. The following year, market size surged to 142.1 million L, primarily due to a sharp contraction in exports.

After a market contraction to 109.9 million L in 2021 as exports recovered, 2022 brought a modest rebound to 114.6 million L. This was supported by sustained international demand, particularly from the United States, which drove export volumes, while rising production to 352.9 million L offset the outflow. Concurrently, shifting consumer preferences toward natural and healthy products prompted brands to innovate in packaging and product offerings.

In 2023, the market expanded dramatically to 191.4 million L as export volumes fell to 175.9 million L despite stable production. Looking ahead, the sharp rise in international orange juice prices in 2024, linked to reduced Brazilian inventories, began influencing trade flows, with imports rising and exports declining through 2025.

Orange juice production in Mexico declined for the second consecutive year. In 2021, Mexico produced 335.4 million liters of orange juice, remaining nearly unchanged from the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, production decreased by 3.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of -1.1%. The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 348.4 million liters, which saw a modest increase of 0.5%. The largest decline occurred in 2020, with a drop of 3.2%.

After a two-year decline, Mexico's orange juice export value increased in 2021, reaching 311.9 million US dollars, up 13.6% from the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, export value fell by 30.9%, equating to an annualized decrease of 11.6%. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 274.5 million US dollars, which experienced the largest decline of 35.1%.
