Between 2018 and 2023, the Greek market for oil seeds and oleaginous fruits showed considerable volatility. Market volume declined from 2 159 t in 2018 to a low of 1 411 t in 2021, a drop of 35% over three years. This contraction coincided with a downward trend in domestic production, which fell from 2 010 t to 1 290 t over the same period, and a surge in exports, which peaked at 2 098 t in 2020.

A sharp reversal occurred in 2022, with market volume expanding by 45% to reach 2 041 t. This recovery was driven primarily by a dramatic reduction in exports, which fell to 432 t, freeing up supply for the domestic market. Imports also contributed, remaining at a substantial level of 1 542 t.

The market contracted again in 2023, falling to 1 854 t, as domestic production continued its decline to 800 t and imports decreased to 1 364 t. Throughout the period, the interplay between falling production, fluctuating imports, and volatile export levels shaped the overall market size.

From 2017 to 2020, the leading destinations for Greece's oil seeds and oleaginous fruit exports in volume terms were Italy, accounting for 54.2% of exports, Morocco at 12.1%, and the United Arab Emirates with 4.5%. Together, these three countries represented 70.8% of total export flows.

The most significant increase occurred in 2019, with a 40.5% rise.
