From 2018 to 2021, the Czech oil seeds market expanded steadily, with production rising from 25 960 tonnes to 45 280 tonnes and market volume more than doubling to 27 534 tonnes. This growth was supported by global factors such as the OPEC agreement to cut oil production in 2020, which boosted demand for oil seeds in biofuel manufacturing, and the post-COVID-19 recovery that revived trade and commodity prices.

The trend reversed sharply in 2022 when market volume halved to 14 700 tonnes and production fell to 34 800 tonnes. Two major headwinds hit the domestic industry: smuggled commodities from Ukraine flooded the Czech market at extremely low prices, undercutting local farmers, and drought combined with high energy costs across the EU hampered cultivation and processing. These pressures persisted into 2023, keeping market volume depressed at 13 578 tonnes.

Regulatory updates such as the new Food and Tobacco Products Act in 2021 and the introduction of novel winter rapeseed varieties by Bayer in 2023 represented ongoing innovation and legislative refinement, though they did not offset the dominant supply-side shocks during the downturn.

In 2020, the country produced 38 460 tonnes, marking a significant increase of 15.8% compared to the previous year. However, between 2017 and 2020, overall exports decreased by 23.2%, with an annualized decline of 8.4%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 20 025 tonnes, while the largest drop occurred in 2018 with a 27.4% decrease.

In 2020, exports amounted to 65 098 thousand US dollars, showing a moderate decrease of 3.7% from the previous year.
