Earlier Report Observations

The Turkish oat market volume increased from 260 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 314.5 thousand tonnes in 2020, driven by growing consumer demand for oat-based healthy foods and its established use in animal feed. Oats' strong root system and adaptability to local soil and climate conditions supported expanded cultivation, while rising global trade reinforced domestic production trends.

Following a decline to 282.7 thousand tonnes in 2021, the market rebounded sharply to 369.1 thousand tonnes in 2022. This recovery was primarily fueled by the state-owned Toprak Mahsulleri Ofisi (TMO), which implemented flexible purchasing policies, allowed farmers registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) to sell oats without variety or quota limits, and introduced deferred payment options to reduce feed costs. Concurrently, Kellogg's 'Better Days' project provided agronomic consultancy, fertilizer, and plant protection product support to local oat farmers in Isparta, Sivas, and Eskişehir, strengthening long-term production capacity.

Market growth continued in 2023, with volume reaching 409.6 thousand tonnes, reflecting sustained demand and the cumulative effect of improved supply-side conditions.
