Earlier Report Observations

The oat market in Belarus expanded from 351.7 thousand tons in 2018 to 445 thousand tons in 2020. This growth was driven by an increase in the sown area for oats, reflecting greater interest from the agricultural sector, and by rising oat prices in 2020, which encouraged producers to boost output. The government also introduced maximum price limits for the 2020 harvest, adding regulatory certainty to the market.

Market volume then fell sharply to 327.3 thousand tons in 2021 before recovering to 375 thousand tons in 2022. The rebound was supported by the emergence of new oat-based products, such as Granola breakfast cereals, which diversified demand and stimulated processing activity. The widespread use of domestic oat varieties also contributed to production efficiency.

In 2023, the market volume decreased moderately to 349.8 thousand tons, primarily due to lower yields caused by unfavorable weather conditions.
