The millet market volume in Belarus declined from 19 450 tons in 2018 to a low of 13 790 tons in 2021, before recovering to 16 476 tons by 2023.

The contraction in 2021 coincided with state regulations on the consumer market, including import restrictions and assortment lists, which tightened supply conditions. The subsequent rebound was driven by rising demand for affordable staple foods and the growing popularity of gluten-free products, which encouraged increased millet cultivation and consumption.

Belarus's millet production has declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 15 637 tons of millet, which represents a 13.2% decrease compared to 2019. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 14.9%, with an average annual decline of 5.2%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 19 890 tons, which also saw the largest increase of 8.3% that year.

Exports millet from Belarus

Volumes dropped to their lowest point in 2019 and then climbed to their peak in 2020, representing a 7.1-fold difference between these years. From 2017 to 2020, Poland was the dominant partner in Belarus's millet exports by volume, accounting for 85.4% of total flows. Other markets held comparatively modest shares during this period.
