Consumer preferences consistently influenced the market, with taste, price, and Swedish origin being the top factors in cheese selection. In 2021, Swedish cheese held a market share of over 30%, supported by the health of Swedish cows and low antibiotic use, which provided a competitive advantage for domestic producers. By 2023, origin labeling such as 'Från Sverige' made it easier for consumers to identify Swedish cheese, reinforcing loyalty despite rising food prices. In 2024, 54% of consumers considered Swedish origin important, while awareness of the 'Från Sverige' criteria reached 57%.

A significant supply-side development in 2024 was Arla's announcement of a 3.2 billion kronor investment in a new cheese dairy in Götene, one of the largest investments in Swedish food history, set to boost future production capacity. Imports, mainly from EU countries like the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany, continued to affect market availability and competition.
