The market volume for not carded or combed cotton in Senegal fluctuated between 2018 and 2023, reaching a peak of 21 171 t in 2021 before contracting to 11 985 t in 2023. The decline was primarily driven by a reported decrease in raw cotton seed production, which fell to an estimated 15 000–17 000 t in the 2023 season, limiting the raw material available for processing.

State-owned SODEFITEX remained the central player in the cotton sector throughout the period, overseeing production and transformation. For the 2023/2024 season, cotton production increased by 7% to 16 765 t despite a reduction in planted area, supported by favorable rainfall and improved access to fertilizers, suggesting a recovery in the raw material base.

In value terms, the market mirrored the volume trend, peaking at $38.1 million in 2021 before falling to $29.2 million in 2023. This parallel movement highlights the market's dependence on raw cotton availability and the processing activity led by major domestic enterprises.
