The market for non-coniferous wood fuel in Greece contracted significantly from 2018 to 2023, with total volume falling from 997.1 thousand m³ to 633.7 thousand m³, a reduction of over 36%. This decline was not uniform, characterized by a period of gradual decrease followed by a much steeper drop.

A particularly sharp downturn of over 28% occurred between 2021 and 2022, reducing the market by more than 255 thousand m³. This was accompanied by a parallel halving of domestic production volumes over the same period. The market then showed signs of stabilization in 2023, with the year-on-year decline slowing to less than 2%.

Production decreased by 13.3% between 2017 and 2020, which translates to an average annual decline of 4.6%.
