The market for non-coniferous wood fuel in Brazil remained stable at around 116–118 million cubic meters between 2018 and 2020, supported by consistently strong domestic demand that accounted for 42% of the country's total wood use. During this period, the devaluation of the Brazilian real increased the competitiveness of wood exports, though export volumes for wood fuel stayed steady.

Market volume then grew to 127.0 million cubic meters by 2022. This expansion was driven by increased sawnwood and plywood production in southern Brazil, which boosted the supply of wood for fuel, alongside significant investments in the timber and paper sector and favorable climatic conditions that enhanced forest productivity.

In 2023, the market stabilized at 126.7 million cubic meters. A slowdown in construction reduced demand for wood panels, indirectly affecting wood fuel consumption, while growing exports of sawnwood and chips, together with rising demand for valuable timber for furniture and construction, placed pressure on the availability of non-coniferous wood for fuel.

Brazil's production of non-coniferous wood fuel grew for the second year in a row. In 2021, the country produced 126.3 million cubic meters, a 6.1% increase from the previous year. Over the period from 2018 to 2021, production rose by 4.8%, averaging an annual growth rate of 1.6%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 118.2 million cubic meters, which also saw the largest decline of 1.9%.

In 2021, the value of non-coniferous wood fuel output in Brazil reached 6 985 million US dollars, showing a modest 5.7% increase compared to 2020. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 6 607 million US dollars, while the highest was in 2019 at 7 784 million US dollars. The largest decline occurred in 2020 with a drop of 15.1%, whereas the largest increase was in 2019 with an 11.8% rise.

From 2018 to 2021, exports grew by 7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.3%. The lowest export volume was in 2019 at 2 287 thousand cubic meters, which also experienced the largest decline of 8.4%. The largest increase was recorded in 2020 with a 10.2% rise.

From 2018 to 2021, China, Japan, and Portugal were the primary markets for Brazil's non-coniferous wood fuel exports in volume terms. China accounted for 43.9% of exports, Japan for 35.6%, and Portugal for 11.3%, together representing 90.8% of total export flows.
