The non-coniferous sawnwood market in Bosnia and Herzegovina showed considerable fluctuation in volume between 2018 and 2023. After beginning the period at 886 thousand cubic meters, the market contracted significantly to 701 thousand cubic meters in 2020. A recovery phase then began, with volume rising to 860 thousand cubic meters in 2022 and stabilizing at 869 thousand cubic meters in 2023.

This trajectory was shaped by shifts in domestic output and international trade. Production fell from 1.04 million cubic meters in 2018 to a low of 857 thousand cubic meters in 2020, before climbing back to 974 thousand by 2022. Concurrently, imports saw a substantial increase, more than tripling from 41 thousand cubic meters in 2020 to 138 thousand in 2022, which provided crucial support to the overall market volume during the recovery.

Following a two-year decline, non-coniferous sawnwood production in Bosnia and Herzegovina rebounded. In 2021, the country produced 907 thousand cubic meters of non-coniferous sawnwood, marking a gradual increase of 5.8% compared to the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, overall production decreased by 12.8%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -4.4%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2020 at 857 thousand cubic meters, which also saw the largest decline of 15.6%.

In 2021, exports reached 256.9 thousand cubic meters, a significant 30.0% increase compared to 2020. After a two-year reduction, Bosnia and Herzegovina's imports of non-coniferous sawnwood surged. In 2021, the country imported 66.5 thousand cubic meters, representing a steep increase of 61.1% relative to the prior year. Over the 2018-2021 period, imports rose by 23.1%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.2%. The lowest import volume was in 2020 at 41.3 thousand cubic meters, which also recorded the largest decline of 12.8%.

Throughout 2018 to 2021, Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia were the key partners for non-coniferous sawnwood imports into Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2021, imports totaled 43.3 million US dollars, a dramatic increase of 35.1% year-over-year. Over the 2018-2021 period, import values grew by 18.4%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.8%. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 32.0 million US dollars, while the largest decline occurred in 2019 at 8.1%.
