The market shrank to 38 586 m³ in 2019, a period when authorities maintained a 60% tax on imported furniture items, increasing costs for wood imports. It recovered to 42 129 m³ in 2020, boosted by the launch of a large-scale housing construction program for 2020‑2024 that directly raised demand for sawnwood. Volume then dipped to 36 319 m³ in 2021.

Market volume rose to 39 421 m³ in 2022 and jumped 44% to 56 673 m³ in 2023. This strong growth was supported by falling international softwood prices, which lowered import costs, and increased import flows from Scandinavia and Austria. The elimination of the 51/49 investment law facilitated the entry of foreign players, while state-owned complexes like ENATB continued to influence the market structure. Algerian consumers' preference for durable furniture also shaped local demand patterns.
