From 2018 to 2021, Mali's non-coniferous roundwood market volume grew from 6.6 million m³ to 6.84 million m³. This increase was driven by government measures supporting the agricultural sector, including the 2020 decision to maintain cotton purchase prices and the 2021 launch of agricultural mechanization projects, which raised demand for wood for farm infrastructure and rural development.

In 2022, the market fell to 6.49 million m³. The decline was primarily caused by the ECOWAS and UEMOA trade embargo from January to July, which restricted access to supply ports, and the global surge in agricultural input prices due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, increasing costs and dampening economic activity.

A partial recovery to 6.61 million m³ occurred in 2023, supported by efforts to enhance production capacities in the charcoal and firewood sector through the introduction of more efficient machinery, improving the availability and management of non-coniferous roundwood.

Mali's production of non-coniferous roundwood has grown for the third year in a row. In 2019, the country produced 6,706 thousand cubic meters, and this figure rose by 0.8% to reach the same level in 2020. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production increased by 2.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 0.8%.
