The sector's close ties to construction, which rebounded with public and private projects, initially supported demand. However, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted global logistics chains, spiking prices for imported wood and dampening economic activity, leading to a decline in market volume to 5.6 million m³.

A sharp turnaround came in 2021 as the global economic recovery and resumed construction activity fueled a surge in wood demand, pushing the market volume up to 5.7 million m³. This growth occurred despite ongoing annual forest loss and margin pressures on small and medium enterprises. By 2022, wood prices stabilized after the post-pandemic inflation peak, while competition from finished furniture imports continued to challenge local industrial development, resulting in a slight market contraction to 5.6 million m³.

In 2023, the market volume rebounded significantly, reaching 5.9 million m³, marking the highest level in the observed period.

In 2018, exports hit their lowest point at just 27 cubic meters, while 2019 saw a peak of 3 441 cubic meters—a dramatic 127-fold increase. In 2020, Morocco's non-coniferous roundwood export volume dropped sharply to 1 107 cubic meters, representing a sudden 67.8% decline from the previous year. The largest year-over-year surge occurred in 2019, with exports skyrocketing by 12,644.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Mauritania was the primary destination for Morocco's non-coniferous roundwood exports in volume terms, accounting for 74.8% of total flows. Other markets contributed smaller shares, forming a long tail of minor partners.

From 2017 to 2020, France was the leading source of non-coniferous roundwood imports to Morocco in volume terms, holding an 82.1% share of total flows. The remainder was distributed among other partners.
