In 2018, production of non-coniferous roundwood reached 60.3 million cubic meters, supported by record timber harvesting in Russia. Output then fell to 56.8 million cubic meters in 2019 due to a market surplus of raw materials and operational difficulties in winter logging.

Production stabilized in 2020 and rose to 60.6 million cubic meters in 2021 as manufacturers increased roundwood exports ahead of an anticipated ban. However, from January 2022, a government ban on exports of unprocessed coniferous and valuable deciduous wood caused a sharp 70% drop in roundwood exports, leading production to decline to 57.0 million cubic meters that year.

The downward trend continued in 2023, with output falling further to 52.6 million cubic meters, driven by reduced demand from China, a key export market experiencing a crisis in its construction sector. Government policy encouraging deep wood processing continued to reshape the market structure during this period.

In 2020, CIS countries produced 57,730 thousand cubic meters of non-coniferous roundwood, marking a 1.6% increase from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 5.8% overall, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 1.9%. The highest production level was reached in 2018, with 60,273 thousand cubic meters. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, when production fell by 5.7%. Conversely, the largest increase was recorded in 2018, with a notable rise of 10.5%.
