Non-coniferous roundwood production in Central Asia increased steadily from 2.20 million m³ in 2018 to a peak of 2.32 million m³ in 2021. This upward trend was initially fueled by record timber harvesting in 2018, which lifted roundwood volumes. The market also began adjusting to early regulatory changes, including a 2020 presidential decree that banned exports of unprocessed roundwood to stimulate domestic processing. In 2021, production stabilized as exporters maintained high shipment levels ahead of the forthcoming full ban.

The complete export ban implemented from January 2022 reversed the trend, with production dropping to 2.26 million m³ that year as producers lost key export markets and faced pressure in Siberian and Far Eastern regions. However, output partially recovered to 2.28 million m³ in 2023, supported by a shift toward internal consumption and growing processing into sawn wood and plywood. By 2024, the market continued to adapt with Kazakhstan extending its wood export ban to 2030 and Russia introducing new forest-use fees, while major industry players like Segezha Group increased roundwood shipments focused on domestic and regional markets.

Central Asia's non-coniferous roundwood production has now grown for three consecutive years. In 2019, the region produced 2,237 thousand cubic meters, which increased by 3.5% to reach 2,317 thousand cubic meters in 2020. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 9.5% overall, translating to an average annual growth rate of 3.1%.
