Molasses production in Senegal remained stable at 40 000 t in 2018 and 2019, supported by the dominant position of the state-owned Compagnie Sucrière Sénégalaise (CSS), which invested in modern sugar processing infrastructure, securing steady output of molasses as a by-product. Output began to rise in 2020, reaching 42 000 t.

The upward trend continued in 2021, with production climbing to 47 815 t, and further to 48 541 t in 2022. In 2023, volume dipped to 46 496 t. That same year, CSS commissioned an industrial distillery to produce ethanol from molasses, opening a new outlet for this sugar by-product and expanding storage capacity to 15 000 t.
