Yemen's market for mandarins, clementines, tangelos and citrus hybrids grew from 16 265 t in 2018 to 24 644 t in 2023, despite the ongoing conflict's strain on agricultural infrastructure and investment. A shift in consumer behavior towards locally grown produce, driven by high import prices, provided initial support for domestic demand.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further strengthened demand for local citrus due to import restrictions, while supply chain disruptions were overcome. This period was followed by the entry of new players into agriculture and supportive policy changes from authorities, which directly stimulated production and led to a significant market expansion by 2021.

A temporary setback occurred in 2022 when regional conflicts increased the cost of key agricultural inputs like fertilizers and pesticides, raising production expenses. The market recovered in 2023 as active support from agricultural bodies helped drive citrus production higher, pushing the overall market volume to a new peak.

In 2020, the country produced 20 565 tonnes, marking a slight gain of 1.4% compared to 2019. Production hit its lowest point in 2018 at 16 265 tonnes, which represented the largest decline of 20.7% during this period. The following year, in 2019, production rebounded with the largest increase of 24.7%.
