Domestic production varied between 1 373 t and 1 961 t, while imports, accounting for the majority of supply, dropped from 4 025 t to 2 860 t in 2020 and later rose to over 3 500 t. The absence of exports meant that market size was solely determined by local output and import levels.

In 2020, Montenegro produced 2 K t of malt, representing a 16.0% increase from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 22.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.0%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 2 K t, which saw the largest annual increase of 22.6%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the most significant decline of 13.8%.
