The market volume for wheat and meslin flour in Czechia fluctuated between 693 thousand tons and 721 thousand tons from 2018 to 2024. After rising to 721 thousand tons in 2019, volumes declined over the next two years, reaching 694 thousand tons in 2021. This trend aligned with a long-term decrease in flour consumption, even as demand for bakery products grew. Globally, wheat flour production jumped by 18% in 2020, but this did not prevent the contraction of the Czech market.

Market volume rebounded to 716 thousand tons in 2022, a year marked by sharp price increases due to global supply chain disruptions and a tripling of natural gas prices, which significantly raised production costs. The European Union's permanent approval for cultivating population crops, including wheat, opened new avenues for the market that year. However, volume fell to 693 thousand tons in 2023 as a shortage of flour emerged from high exports of food wheat, coupled with persistently high costs for energy and raw materials. By 2024, the market stabilized at 694 thousand tons, though flour prices remained elevated amid continued long-term consumption decline.

In value terms, the market soared to $358.7 million in 2022 from $238.7 million in 2021, driven by the unprecedented rise in flour and energy prices. Although values corrected to $334.9 million in 2023 and $274.1 million in 2024, they stayed well above pre-2022 levels, reflecting ongoing cost pressures on bakeries.
