Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for maize bran and residues in Peru gradually contracted from 35,800 t in 2018 to 33,100 t in 2023. A slight uptick occurred in 2020, but the overall trend remained downward.

A prolonged drought in 2022 severely affected corn production, reducing the supply of milling by-products. That same year, a declared avian flu emergency dampened demand for animal feed, further limiting consumption. In 2023, a 3.3% reduction in planted area for yellow corn continued to constrain domestic bran output.

The sector operates within a context of high dependence on corn imports, which satisfy the majority of national demand. Public programs promoting the valorization of agricultural residues and circular economy principles also began to influence the market, while extreme weather events remained a persistent risk to crop supply.
