This growth was directly fueled by the government's Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) program, which boosted maize yields through certified seed distribution and a strengthened agricultural extension network. The increase in primary maize production led to a greater supply of milling by-products, driving market expansion.

The market reached 73.5 thousand tonnes in 2021, moderated to 70.8 thousand tonnes in 2022, and recovered to 73.2 thousand tonnes in 2023. Overall, the period from 2018 to 2023 saw the total market volume grow by over 37%, reflecting a sustained increase in availability.

Ghana's cross-border shipments of maize bran, sharps, and residues have increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports reached 78.6 tonnes, a dramatic rise of 3,499.9% compared to 2019. Between 2018 and 2020, exports surged by 4,660.6%, translating to an annualized growth rate of 262.4%.
