Earlier Report Observations

The natural magnesium carbonate market in Southern Asia experienced considerable volatility from 2018 to 2022. Market volume, reflecting domestic consumption, fell by nearly 15% in 2019 to 273.5 thousand tons, then recovered by over 23% in 2020 to 338.1 thousand tons, before declining again in the subsequent two years.

This movement was closely tied to production trends, which dropped by 12.8% in 2019 to 296.8 thousand tons, surged by 23% in 2020 to 365.2 thousand tons, and then contracted by 8.8% in 2021 and 6.3% in 2022. The region remained a net exporter throughout the period, with exports consistently exceeding 20 thousand tons per year and imports remaining negligible.

By 2022, both market volume and production had settled below their 2018 starting points, indicating a period of overall contraction after the temporary peak in 2020.
