The market for liquid eggs in Czechia showed notable fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After a peak of 6 668 т in 2019, consumption fell by nearly 15% in 2020 to 5 676 т. A modest recovery followed in 2021, but volumes dropped sharply again in 2022 and 2023, reaching 4 048 т—a total decline of almost 40% from the 2019 high. Domestic production remained minimal throughout the period, so market size was primarily driven by net imports, which contracted as imports fell and exports rose steadily.

The continued market contraction in 2023 coincided with severe supply-side pressures. An outbreak of avian influenza led to large-scale culling of poultry flocks, reducing egg availability. Simultaneously, the upcoming EU-wide ban on caged housing for laying hens, effective from 2027, forced producers to invest in alternative systems, raising costs and constraining production. These factors contributed to egg shortages and higher prices, which likely dampened domestic consumption and supported increased exports.

Supply constraints persisted into 2024 and 2025, maintaining upward pressure on prices. Regulatory adjustments continued to shape the market, including the approval of new facilities for importing eggs and egg products from Ukraine and Turkey. At the same time, product innovation emerged within the liquid egg segment, such as the launch of pasteurized liquid eggs in Tetra Pak packaging, indicating a diversification of offerings for consumers.
