Earlier Report Observations

Production of leguminous vegetables in Kyrgyzstan grew to 10 060 t in 2019 but fell to 9 358 t in 2020 due to unfavorable weather conditions and low yields in the region, which reduced the market volume to 9 350 t. The country maintained a high level of self-sufficiency in vegetables during this period, supported by extensive farming practices.

State support for agricultural entities in 2021 helped production recover to 9 601 t, yet the market volume dropped sharply to 6 497 t as exports surged to 3 157 t. In 2022, amendments to legislation on legume seed sales and the implementation of the Technical Regulation on the safety of fresh fruits and vegetables influenced production quality and processes, keeping output at 9 673 t. Exports remained elevated at 2 456 t, allowing the market volume to rise to 7 278 t.

By 2023, production eased slightly to 9 544 t, but the market volume rebounded to 9 350 t as exports normalized to 248 t. This period saw reduced state interference in trade and ongoing export expansion to EAEU markets. Subsequent years were marked by imports of dried leguminous vegetables from Kazakhstan and potential impacts from changes in the Tax Code.
