Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for carrots and turnips in Kyrgyzstan showed overall growth from 190 thousand tons in 2018 to 212 thousand tons in 2023, though with notable fluctuations. After a peak of 205 thousand tons in 2020, the market contracted to 184 thousand tons in 2021 before recovering steadily over the next two years. Domestic production followed a similar pattern, reaching 186 thousand tons in 2022 before a slight dip to 184 thousand tons in 2023.

Imports rose substantially from 17 thousand tons in 2018 to 39 thousand tons by 2024, indicating increasing reliance on foreign supplies. Exports expanded from 3 thousand tons to a high of 15 thousand tons in 2021, then trended downward to 7 thousand tons by 2024. In 2025, export opportunities widened after Russian phytosanitary authorities permitted the first shipment of fresh carrots from Kyrgyzstan to Perm Krai, opening a new market. At the same time, a three-month ban on carrot exports from Kazakhstan to third countries and the EAEU affected regional trade flows, contributing to a decline in imports from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan. These developments coincided with a 22% increase in the agro-industrial sector's foreign trade turnover in Kyrgyzstan during 2025.
