Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2022, production and market volume of legume bran, sharps, and residues in Russia showed steady growth. Production rose from 6.3 thousand tons in 2018 to 23.4 thousand tons in 2022, while market size increased from 6.3 thousand tons to 19.9 thousand tons. This expansion was driven primarily by growing export demand, particularly from Turkey, and the activity of large Russian producers focusing on foreign markets. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further stimulated export shipments due to shifts in logistics and feed demand. Additionally, increased agricultural subsidies in 2022 supported livestock production, boosting domestic demand for feed ingredients.

In 2023, production dropped sharply to 11.5 thousand tons, and market volume fell to 10.5 thousand tons. This decline was linked to the introduction of quotas on seed imports from unfriendly countries, which constrained access to raw materials for bran production. Despite the contraction, new players entered the market, and export opportunities expanded, including negotiations with China for purchases.

Into 2024, trade restrictions such as seed import quotas continued to influence the market, alongside sustained demand from Turkey. Company AGS more than doubled its wheat bran exports in the first half of 2024, highlighting the industry's ongoing export orientation.
