Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2022, the market volume for legume bran, sharps and residues in the CIS grew from 6 305 tons to 19 357 tons. This expansion was driven by the implementation of agricultural waste management regulations under Rosprirodnadzor Order No. 242, which spurred processing activity. Increased demand for bran in 2020 further lifted consumption, while export quotas for mineral fertilizers introduced in late 2021 boosted domestic demand for these residues as fertilizer feedstock. A significant rise in soybean harvests in 2022 expanded the raw material base, supporting continued market growth.

In 2023, the market volume contracted by 40% to 11 536 tons. This decline occurred despite factors such as expanded soybean planting areas and higher grain production, which increased the availability of raw materials. Production fell sharply during the year, leading to the reduced market size.
