Iranian kiwifruit production remained stable between 292.9 and 296.6 thousand tons from 2018 to 2023. Over the same period, export volumes more than doubled, rising from 139.6 thousand tons in 2018 to a peak of 210.9 thousand tons in 2022.

The steady rise in exports led to a contraction of the domestic fresh kiwifruit market, which shrank from 153.8 thousand tons in 2018 to 83.7 thousand tons in 2022. This trend reversed in 2023 when exports fell to 197.9 thousand tons, allowing the domestic market volume to recover to 97.2 thousand tons.

Export shipments continued their upward trajectory in 2024, reaching 226.4 thousand tons according to available trade data.

From 2017 to 2020, Iran ranked fourth globally in kiwifruit production.

Following a two-year decline, Iran's kiwifruit production rebounded. In 2020, Iran produced 296.6 thousand tons of kiwifruit, marking a modest year-on-year increase of 1.3%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 2.3%, which translates to an annualized decline of 0.8%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 292.9 thousand tons, while the largest drop occurred in 2018 with a 3.4% decrease.

Exports kiwifruit from Iran

Iran's kiwifruit exports have grown for the third year in a row. In 2020, Iran exported 176.9 thousand tons of kiwifruit, reflecting a 9.7% increase compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports surged by 55.2%, averaging an annual growth rate of 15.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia, Iraq, and India were the primary destinations for Iran's kiwifruit exports, accounting for 71.7% of the total volume. Russia led with 39.3% of exports, followed by Iraq and India, each at 16.2%.

Exports in value, M $ US

After two years of growth, Iran's kiwifruit export revenues declined. In 2020, exports amounted to 81.6 million US dollars, a 28.2% decrease from the prior year. Over the 2017–2020 period, export revenues increased by 31%, with an annualized growth rate of 9.4%. The peak value was recorded in 2019 at 113.6 million US dollars, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 with a 55.1% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia, Iraq, and India were the main markets for Iran's kiwifruit exports by value, collectively representing 72.4% of total export revenues. Russia accounted for 41.8%, Iraq for 15.6%, and India for 14.9%.
