Earlier Report Observations

The Greek market for in-shell almonds experienced significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 26 978 metric tons in 2018, market volume contracted to 22 114 t in 2019, then recovered to 28 495 t in 2020. After a slight dip to 27 018 t in 2021, the market surged dramatically to 39 811 t in 2022, marking the highest point in the period, before declining to 36 789 t in 2023.

The 47% growth in market volume during 2022 was primarily driven by a substantial increase in domestic production, which reached 39 680 t that year. The correction in 2023 brought the market to a level still well above the pre-2022 average. Throughout the period, foreign trade played a negligible role, with annual imports remaining below 300 t and exports under 120 t, indicating that domestic output was the dominant factor in market size movements.
