Greece's apricot production grew for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 125.6 thousand tons of apricots, marking a modest increase of 6.2% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production rose by 10.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 3.4%. The lowest production level was in 2018 at 108.6 thousand tons, which saw the largest decline of 4.6%. In contrast, 2019 recorded the highest growth at 9.0%.

Exports apricots from Greece

Greece's apricot exports declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, export volume stood at 21 544 tons, reflecting a 6.5% year-on-year decrease. From 2017 to 2020, exports fell by 12.7%, translating to an average annual decline of 4.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Bulgaria, Romania, and Germany were the primary destinations for Greece's apricot exports by volume, accounting for 21.0%, 17.4%, and 15.2% of total exports, respectively. Together, these three countries made up 53.6% of all export flows.

Greece's apricot exports in value terms increased in 2020, reaching 23 797 thousand US dollars, a significant rise of 26.8% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value grew by 44%, with an average annual increase of 12.9%. The largest decline occurred in 2019 at 12.4%, while the highest growth was in 2018 at 29.7%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Greece's apricot exports by value were spread across numerous partner countries. Germany, Romania, and Czechia were the top destinations, contributing 23.7%, 13.8%, and 10.9% of total export value, respectively. Combined, these three countries accounted for 48.4% of all export flows.

Imports apricots to Greece

Imports in kind, t

Greece's apricot imports rose for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports totaled 388 tons, showing a sharp increase of 43.5% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports grew by 45.2%, with an average annual growth rate of 13.2%. The lowest import volume was in 2018 at 251 tons, which also saw the largest decline of 6.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, Spain, Germany, and Italy were consistently the main sources of Greece's apricot imports by volume, representing 56.0%, 17.1%, and 8.1% of total imports, respectively. Together, these three countries accounted for 81.2% of all import flows.

After two years of decline, Greece's apricot imports in value terms rebounded in 2020. Imports reached 766 thousand US dollars, a substantial increase of 64.7% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, import value rose by 60%, with an average annual growth rate of 17.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 465 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 1.6%.
