The hop cones and lupulin market in Sub-Saharan Africa saw marked volatility in volume from 2018 to 2023. Starting at 50 thousand tons in 2018, consumption fell to 43 thousand tons the following year, then recovered to 48 thousand tons in 2020.
Market volume declined moderately to 45 thousand tons in 2021 and dropped more sharply to 39 thousand tons in 2022, the lowest level of the period. This was followed by a strong rebound to 45 thousand tons in 2023.
Domestic production followed a similar pattern, reaching its trough in 2022 at 38 thousand tons before rising again. Imports generally increased over the years, while exports decreased after 2020, influencing overall supply.
